Abstract
Objective: To investigate clinicopathology and biologic characteristics of gastrointsetinal stromal tumors(GIST). Methods: In the study of 45 cases of GIST,clinico-pathologic characteristics were observed, all the cases were detected with immunohistochemical expressions of CD117,CD34,SMA and S-100 protein. Results :Of 45 cases, age range from 15 to 79,averge age 53 years old. There were 25 cases in stomach,14 in small intestine,5 in colon,1 in 10 were benign,15 were bordline and 20 were malignant. The neoplastic cells were spindle, epitheliold or both in different proportion. As to immunohistochemical phenotype, the postive rates of CD117,CD34 ,SMA and S-100 were 91.1% ,80%,35.6% and 28.9%. There was no significant difference in the expression of CD117,CD34,SMA and S-100 protein among all the different risk groups. Conclusions: GIST predominantly occurred in middle and older patients and located in the stomach and small instestine. CD117 and CD34 are helpful to diagnosis, immunophenotype is not a predictor of the risk of GISTs.
