Abstract

Objective To create model of vertebrobasilar artery insufficiency and improve the blood stream by vertebral-occipital artery bypass graft. Methods Location and diameter of vertebral artery and occipital artery were presented by anatomizing two piece fresh specimens of adult goats.Experimental vertebrobasilar artery insufficiency was created in two alive goats by presenting unilateral vertebral artery and blocking the blood stream.Occipital artery was anatomized and anastomosed to vertebral artery.Contrast was injected to show the blood stream. Results Two goats stood surgery and anaesthesia well, and contrast went through pons between vertebral and occipital artery smoothly.Blood stream could enter far segment vertebral artery through occipital artery after close heart segment vertebral artery blocked. Conclusion In the vivo goat experiment,vertebral-occipital artery bypass graft can improve vertebrobasilar artery insufficiency of the model.
