Hierarchical structure analysis of the urban system in Shaanxi Province,China

Aim Hierarchical structure analysis of the urban system is not only an important factor which affects the development of region economy,but also an important basis for development policy.Methods By analyzing the hierarchical structure of the urban system in Shaanxi Province by means of the fractal theory,the present situation of the hierarchical size structure of the urban system was studied.Results ① So seriously unharmonious is the hierarchical size structure of the urban system,which meets primate city distribution.Thus primate city has absolute monopoly on other medium and small cities,the disparity in size between high-grade cities and medium and small cities is great,and there also exists fault phenomenon in city hierarchical size structure.② The grade difference in the urban system shows a downward trend.Conclusion The role of the primate city Xi'an being strengthened continuously,such medium and small cities as Baoji and Xianyang are made to stride forward towards megacity,to expand their scales and to improve their urban agglomerations competitiveness.
