Abstract

The aerial part of Cynoglossum amabile was extracted by ethanol. The resultant extract was then extracted successively by petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, and water. The antimicrobial activities were examined by using five types of bacteria, such as Escherichia coli,Bacillus subtilis,Proteus vulgaris,Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and the five types of popular plant pathogenic fungi,Botryosphaeria rhodina,Fusarium oxysporum,Fusarium solani,Corynespora cassiicola and Colletotrichum acutatum. The results showed that different extracts had different anti-microbial activities.Petroleum ether extract showed no significant inhibition to 5bacteria.Chloroform extract had inhibition to E.coli and P.vulgaris, the ethyl acetate extract exhibited inhibition to B.subtilis,E.coli and P.vulgaris, and the water extract inhibited E.coli.The minimal inhibitory concentration for the chloroform extract was 3mg/mL,2mg/mL for the ethyl acetate extract, and 20mg/mL for the water extract.
