Abstract

Objective To investigate the effects of in vitro blood dilution with HES on hemorheology.?Methods Forty patients with vocal cord polyps were selected and divided into HES(n=20) and Ringer (n=20) groups.Venous blood of 12ml were collected and aliquotted into four heparinized tubes. The blood samples were then diluted with 6% HES or Ringer's solution,so that the hematocrit (Hct) was decreased to 30 %, 25% or 20%. Hemorheology was examined by observation of blood viscosity, plasma viscosity, Hct, index of red blood cell (RBC) aggregation, index of RBC deformation and fibrinogen.?Results Blood viscosity, index of RBC aggregation, and fibrinogen were shown to be significantly decreased(P0.05) and index of RBC deformation and plasma viscosity increased (P0.05) after dilution in HES group. They were also significantly different from those of the control group.?Conclusion Six percent of HES could significantly improve hemorheologic state of blood.
