Abstract
A new surface modeling approach for free-form machining is presented in this paper.Based on this approach the surface of a part presented with a list data,is constructed with parallel mesh. To construct the mesh, the cubic spline function and parametric spline are employed to interpolate the list data points along the directions of both the column line and the row line respectively, and the local rebound approach can fair the curve.Due to using parametric spline to interpolate the curve,it make sure that all the points on the curve is jointed together and smooth. The curve has the property of continues first order derivative and second order derivative, therefore if has a benefit for easy NC programming when the part is machined on a way of zig-zag path which parallel to the orthogonal coordinate axes.
