Abstract

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the relationship between the expressions of expression of p27 and cyclin E proteins in synovial sarcoma and prognosis of synovial sarcoma.METHODS:The filed paraffin sections of 46 cases of synovial sarcoma and 10 cases of normal synovial tissues excised by operation were obtained. The expressions of p27 and cyclin E in synovial sarcoma and normal synovial were examined by the immunohistochemical. RESULTS:p27 protein positive-expression in synovial sarcoma was 19.6% (9/46), which was lower than that in normal synovial,P=0.01; p27 protein positive expression correlated significantly histological grade and prognosis of synovial sarcoma,P=0.01; cyclin E protein positive-expression rate in synovial sarcoma was 63%(29/46), which was higher than normal synovial,P=0.00; cyclin E protein positive-expression correlated significantly prognosis of synovial sarcoma,P=0.00.CONCLUSIONS:p27 and cyclin E proteins may play an important role in prognosis of patients with synovial sarcoma. A combination of p27 expression and cyclin E expression permits more accurate estimation of the prognosis of patients with synovial sarcoma.
