Observation of the function of platelet in the patients with ulcerative colitis

Objective To investigate the change of the function of platelet in the patients with ulcerative colitis and its relation with the disease. Methods The data of twenty patients admitted in hospital in 2006 were collected and analysed ,including their platelet count, mean platelet volume(MPV) and platelet congregation ratio. Results The mean platelet count before and after treatment were 385.61×1012/L and 192.67×1012/L,respectively. And there was no statistical difference between two groups(P0.05). MPV before treatment was 9.53 fl and 11.58 fl after treatment. There was significant difference between two groups(P0.01). The max platelet congregation ratio before treatment was 0.65, and 0.30 after treatment. There was significant difference between two groups (P0.01). And there was significant difference among mild, moderate and severe groups(P0.01). We caculated the correlation efficient of upper three index, and found no correlation(P0.05).Conclusion The change of platelet in the patients with ulcerative colitis may be one of the indications of the activity of the disease, which could reflect its degree.
