Effect of refractive correction on the emmetropization of children with hyperopia

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effect of refractive correction on the variation of diopter in children with hyperopia.METHODS Optometry with mydriatic was used to examine 83 patients(166 eyes) aged 6～9 years old.The diopters of all the cases were hyperopia and compound hyperopic astigmatism.The prescription of spectacles were made according to that the diopter was subtracted from different hyperopia.Thus,all the patients were divided into group 1(subtract +1.00?DS),group 2(subtract +2.00?DS),and group 3(subtract +3.00?DS).During three years,their variation of hyperopia diopter were observed yearly.RESULTS The hyperopia diopter of each group had reduced year after year.But the average reduction of hyperopia diopter of group one was significantly lower than that of other two groups(P0.01).There was no statistical difference between group 2 and 3(P0.05).CONCLUSIONS Refractive corrections of different degree had effect on emmetropization of children with hyperopia.Moderate under correction was useful for emmetropization of children with hyperopia.
