Abstract

Objective To analyze the causes of the complications after palatoplasty and to investigate the measures for the prevention and control of the complications. Methods The clinical data of 472 patients of cleft palate treated by palatoplasty from Jan.2000 to Jun.2011 were retrospectively analyzed. Results Of the 472 patients,19 patients underwent postoperative complications, with the incidence of 4.02%(19/472),including eleven patients(2.33%) with palatal fistula,one(0.21%) with completely fissure,two(0.42%) with postoperative bleeding,two(0.42%) with edema of the throat,two(0.42%) with postoperative otitis media, and one(0.21%) with postoperative herpetic stomatitis. Conclusion The postoperative complications after palatoplasty can be reduced through improving surgical methods and the quality of postoperative care.
