Abstract
The soil quality change and spatial distribution of soil fertility in different slope position after the vegetation recovery in semi-arid region of Loess Plateau were discussed. The results showed that water holding capacity was effectively improved with the vegetation recovery, whereas soil pH and the content of total salt obviously decreased compared to bare hill, but soil fertility obviously improved, especially the content of soil total N and available P had a large increase. The upper slope had better soil fertility quality than lower slope, whereas opposite on the bare hill. The total salt content in soil gradually increased from upper slope to lower slope. The activity of soil urease increased with the vegetation rebuild, but there was no significant difference among three landscape positions(top slope, middle slope, foot slope).Soil catalase activity in top soil showed no obvious increase, but increase significantly in 20-40cm soil layers after the vegetation recovery. The results showed that soil fertility quality on slope largely depended on the styles of land utilization, vegetation types and landscape position.Vegetation restoration and construction played an important role in improving soil environment quality in this region.
