Abstract

The ccumber cultivar,Jinyou No.2,was used to investigate the effect of complex sodium salt stress on growth and physiological characteristics of cucumber seedlings. The complex sodium salt stress significantly reduced the biomass production of cucumber seedlings. After exposed to sodium salt stress, contents of proline, malondialdehyde, and soluble sugar, and electric conductivity of cucumber seedling leaves increased significantly, and kept increasing with higher concentration of sodium ion and longer stress time.Chlorophyll content rose during the early stage of stress, then decreased with stress process. These results indicated that high concentration of sodium ion damaged the integrity of cell membrane, leading to the increased extravasation of cell inclusion, and consequently the inhibition of growth and development of cucumber plants.
