On the Reality and Future of Chinese University's Mission——From the Perspective of Scientific Development View

The mission of the university,as a guide of university for its development,determines what a university should do and what should not do. It is an important support for university to achieve self- sufficiency and development. It can be said that the universities without their missions are like water without a source and a tree without roots,so there will be no development and innovation. The leading role of university's mission has not been brought out in contemporary China. However there exist some problems such as the essential meaning is ambiguous,the subject is lost,subjectivity is drifting away,research is disconnected with practice,etc. Therefore,a university's mission in contemporary China should be viewed from a scientific development perspective. Educators need to differentiate the content from the level. Teaching and education are regarded as the priority in university. The concept ofto teach fishing is better than to fish should be defined. Meanwhile,the real subject,practice subject and promoting subject should also be confirmed. Only in this way,can the mission of university be finally realized both theoretically and practically. Therefore,the change of theoretical university mission to realistic mission can be achieved.
