Abstract
Objective To study the effect of infrasound on the proliferation of neural precursors in the subventricular zone(SVZ)of adult rats. Methods A total of 24 male SD rats were randomly divided into normal control group, control group and infrasound group. The rats of infrasound group were exposed to infrasound of 16 Hz at 130 dB for 2 h/d in 7 consecutive days. Before the rats were sacrificed at 3 d,7 d,10 d and 14 d after infrasound exposure,5-bromodeoxyuridine(BrdU)were given intraperitoneally for three times to label the S-phase cells, which were detected by anti-BrdU immunostaining. Results BrdU-positive cells were significantly decreased in the SVZ at 3 d after infrasound exposure and continued to reduce at 7 d,compared with those of the control group at 3 d and 7 d,respectively(P0.01).However,10 d after infrasound exposure,a large number of BrdU-positive cells reappeared in the SVZ,and the number of BrdU-positive cells reached the normal level at 14 d(P0.05).Conclusion Infrasound of 16 Hz at 130 dB inhibits the proliferation of neural precursors in the SVZ of adult rats.
