Abstract

The effects of xylose, nitrogen source, inorganic salt and metal ions on 2,3-butanediol yield were investigated by single factor design and response surface method(four factors and three levels). The results showed that the optimum compositions of the fermentation medium were as follows: xylose 83.4 g/L,yeast powder 20.3 g/L,KH2PO4 10 g/L,K2HPO4 7.2 g/L,(NH4)2SO4 2 g/L,sodiumcitrate 4 g/L,MgSO4.7H2O 0.05 g/L,MnSO4.7H2O 0.005 g/L,ZnSO4.7H2O 0.01 g/L,FeSO4.7H2O 0.005 g/L,and CaCl2 0.057 g/L.Under the above conditions,2,3-butanediol yield could reach up to 0.348 g/g,16 % higher than that under the initial conditions. The experimental results agreed with the predicted values of the model.
