Abstract

The land desertification in Changji County was monitored and analysed on the basis of RS and GIS.The method for drawing samples was used for obtaining the desertification condition throughout changji and interpreting satellite data in combination with ground investigations.The interpretation symbols about desertification type and land type were identified based on ground investigations.Accord to the monitoring result,Changji is a widely desertified region,in which desertified area occupies 83.4% of the whole monitored area.For the desertified land type: the desertified farmland is 17.33%;the desertified woodland is 30%;the desertified grassland is 65.04%;and unused land is 0.8%.For the desertification degree: non-desertification is 16.6%;weak desertification is 19.1%;moderate desertification is 44.5%;serious desertification is 36%.based on the main factor of desertification,wind-erosion desertification is 66.6%;water-erosion desertification is 11.2%;saltation-desertification is 22.2%.
