Abstract
Purpose To study the pathologic types and characteristics of lymphoma based on the Word Health Organization classification of tumors of hematopoietic and lymphoid tissues(2008) in Qingdao area. Methods Clinical data of lymphoma from August 2008 to August 2011 in the affiliated hospital of Qingdao University Medical College were collected and reviewed, including morphological, immunological and clinical characteristics.According to the new WHO classification all the cases were reappraised. Results Of the 664 cases,621 cases(93.52%)were non-Hodgkin's lymphoma(NHL) and 43 cases(6.48%) were Hodgkin's lymphoma(HL).Among NHL cases,78.10% were B-cell neoplasms and 21.90% were T/NK-cell neoplasms. The commonest subtypes were diffuse large B-cell lymphoma,unspecified(DLBCL-NOS,44.61%),extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma of MALT type(MALT,7.73%),extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma(7.25%),peripheral T-cell lymphoma,unspecified(PTCL-NOS,5.31%),and chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma(CLL/SLL,5.15%).Nodular sclerosis classical Hodgkin's lymphoma(NSCHL) was the commonest pathological type of Hodgkin's lymphoma. The ratio of male to female was 1.52 ∶ 1.The mean age at presentation was 53 years(range 2~95 years). The lymph nodes of the cervical region were most commonly involved. Conclusion Of the 664 cases of lymphoma,DLBCL is the commonest subtype of NHL,and NSCHL is the commonest subtype of HL.Most subtypes show a male predominance with most commonly affected in cervical lymphnodes.
