Abstract

Objective To study the expression of p27kip1 and its relationship with the biological behaviors in bladder cancer. Methods p27kip1 expression was determined by immunohistochemical technique in the tussues from 76 patients with bladder transitional cell carcinoma. The apoptotic index,Bcl-2 and bax protein expression were also evaluated. Results Of the 76 patients, the expression rate of p27kip1 in the tissues from bladder transitional cell carcinoma was 61.8%.p27kip1 was low expressed in 55 patients (72.4%) and highly expressed in 21(27.6%),respectively.p27kip1 expression level was correlated with the histological grade,TNM stage,Bcl-2,bax and AI.Univariate analysis demonstrated longer disease-free survival in patients with higher p27kip1 expression than in those with lower expression. Conclusion As an inhibitor of cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor,p27kip1expression is a positive prognostic factor by inducing cancer cell apoptosis.
