Diagnosis and surgical treatment of carotid body tumour in 18 cases

Objective To summarize the experience in the diagnosis and treatment of carotid tumor.Methods All the 18 cases were diagnosised by digital subtraction angiography(DSA).The tumor was resected under carotid adventitial plane in 10 cases,with external carotid artery in 5cases,with internal carotid artery and external carotid artery at the same time in 3 cases.Results All cases were subjected to operation,no one died from operation.Follow up of the 18 patients revealed that no one died from tumor recurrenc or metastasis Conciusion DSA is the gold standard for the diagnosis of carotid body tumor.Consummate preoperative examination,sufficient preoperative preparation and correct operation procedure are the key points to improve the therapeutic effects of the disease.
