Relationship between bile reflux and severity of gastric mucosa injury

Abstract

Objective To study the relationship between bile reflux and gastric mucosa injury.Methods The changes of intragastric bile reflux during 24 h were assessed by using ambulatory bilirubin monitoring technique in 44 subjects,including 11 without mucosa injury,16 with slight injury,and 17 with peptic ulcer.Results The number of subjects whose reflux-area was ≥20 in peptic ulcer group was significantly greater than those in other groups(P0.05).The number of subjects whose frequency of long reflux was ≥10 times in peptic ulcer group and slightly injured group was significantly greater than that in not injured group(P0.05).Conclusions There is a relationship between bile reflux and severity of gastric mucosa injury.The areas of reflux and the frequency of long reflux play a important role in causing severity of gastric mucosa injury.
