Abstract

Objective To evaluate the clinical application value of procalcitonin( PCT) in early diagnosis of children with sepsis. Methods Sixty-two children with sepsis( septic group) and 48 cases without sepsis( non-septic group) were chosen in hospital at the same time. The levels of PCT and C- reactive protein( CRP) were compared between the two groups. Results The levels of PCT and CRP in the septic group were significantly higher than that in the non-sepsis group( P 0. 05). Moreover, sensitivity and specificity of PCT were higher than that of CRP. Conclusion It has certain clinical application value of PCT in children with sepsis in early diagnosis, prognosis, and assessment of treatment efficacy.
