Nurse recruitment and nursing talents' demand in tertiary hospitals in Beijing

Abstract
Objective To investigate the current situation of nurse recruitment and the nursing talents' demand in tertiary hospitals in Beijing.Method The directors of nursing department in 53 tertiary hospitals in Beijing were investigated with a self-designed questionnaire on nurse recruitment and nursing talents demand.Results Of the new nurses recruited in the last three years,64.30% had associate degree.The proportion of the nurses with bachelor degree has reached 20.36%,but only 30% of them have regular staff status.The demand of nurses with bachelor and master degree in the next five years increas es year by year.Moreover,the demand of male nurses increases,which accounted for 7.00% ~8.00% of the total numbers.There were 76.09% of directors thought that the supply of nurses with bachelor degree fell short of demand.The most impor tant qualities of the undergraduate nursing personnel were adequate nursing expertise and humanistic knowledge,high level of team-work spirit,communication skills,nursing skills and problem-solving ability.Conclusion The demand of nursing talents in the tertiary hospitals in Beijing increases year by year.The higher nursing education organizations should take measures to train more well-educated and excellent qualified nursing personnel to meet the market demand.
