Abstract
Based on introduction to the concept and calculation method of ecological footprint, the authors calculate and analyze the ecological footprints of Xi′an from 1995 to 2004 with the data of the statistical yearbooks. The results show that the ecological footprint per capita of Xi′an increases gradually, and in 2004 the ecological deficit per capita is 0.845 hm~2. The high ecological deficit indicates the human load has stayed beyond the regional bio-capacity and the regional natural ecosystem is under great pressure of human activities, which means the development mode of Xi′an is in an unsustainable status as well.
