Endoscopic Thyroidectomy via the Anterior Chest Approach

Abstract

Objective To discuss the endoscopic thyroidectomy via the anterior chest approach to get good cosmetic result without scar on the neck. Methods 18 cases underwent endoscopic thyroidectomy with parasternal and bilateral areola incision. Blunt dissection of the subcutaneous planes of the neck and the chest were administered. The thyroid nodules were extirpated or the subtotal thyroidectomy was finished. Results 18 cases acquired good recovery and obviously improved edema and prominence. All cases succeeded with the cosmetic outcome of scarless on neck. Conclusions The endoscopic thyroidectomy through the anterior chest approach has obvious cosmetic result.
