Abstract

OBJECTIVE To investigate the distribution of integrons in multi-drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii isolates.METHODS PCR was used to screen the class 1,2 and 3 integrons in multi-resistant baumannii isolates, and the sequences of the variable regions of class I integrons were analyzed.RESULTS A total of 133 strains of multi-drug resistant A.baumannii were isolated from Jan to Dec 2007.The detection rate of class I integron in 133 strains was 61.9%.No class Ⅱand Ⅲ integrons were detected. The variable regions of 81 class I integron positive strains were successfully amplified. The gene cassette arrays of 32 strains were aacA4-catB8-aadA1,44 strains were aacA4-catB8-aadA1 and aacC1-orfP-orfQ-aadA1 together and 3 strains were aacC1-orfP-orfQ-aadA1.CONCLUSIONS Class I integron is closely related to the resistance of A.baumannii and plays an important role in multi-drug resistance.
