Study on impact from urbanization on rainfall characteristics

Abstract
In accordance with the monthly rainfall data of 1959 to 2001 from the outskirt rainfall stations of Beijing, the impacts from the urbanization of Beijing on the rainfall characteristics therein are analyzed and studied. The results show that the rainfall isogram in the area of Beijing has been densified by the urbanization, and then the annual rainfall has been increased as well; which makes the change of the coefficient of variation of urban rainfall is larger than those of the suburbs. The analysis on the impacts of rainfall characteristics of Beijing can provide a reference for the engineering design of urban rain flood drainage project concerned.
