Abstract
Based on the planting cotton in barrels, the width of soil wetting pattern was controlled by drip discharge, and correspondingly the cotton growing state was observed as well as the yield. The experimental results indicated that the cotton growth and production closely related to the width of soil wetting pattern under drip irrigation.Wide soil wetting pattern resulted in the cotton in early maturity, and high stem, leaf area index, and yield comparing with the narrow soil wetting pattern. The leaf area of cotton planted in wide soil wetting pattern was not senile as fast as those plated in narrow soil wetting pattern. With the soil wetting pattern becoming wider, the soil water was consumed in shallow layer, and cotton single bell weight, ginning outturn and single plant yield were increased, but the single bell number was decreased.
