Abstract
To evaluate the effect of HDR brachytherapy for residual tumor in NPC 39 patients received 60Gy~71Gy of external beam irradiation with nasopharyngeal residual lesions were treated by brachytherapy from April 1994 to November 1998 Most patients received a total dose of 16Gy/2frations The single fraction dose of most patients was 8Gy with 1 0 cm reference point The complete response was found in 38 cases(38/39,97 4%) and the partial response in 1 case(1/39,2 6%) The median follow up period was 17 monthes There was no serious side effect [Conclusion]HDR brachytherapy is a effective procedure to nasopharyngeal residual lesion of NPC following internal and external radiation But the indication for HDR farther brachytherapy should be considered strictly
