Sebaceous Carcinoma of Eyelid: a Clinicopathologic Analysis of 28 Cases

Objective To investigate the clinicopathological features,diagnosis and differential diagnosis of sebaceous carcinoma(SC) of eyelid.Methods The clinicalpathological data were analyzed retrospectively in 28 patients with SC,and identified from other diseases of eyelid.Results SC can easily be misdiagnosed as other eyelid diseases.Only 8 cases were diagnosed as SC in this group,8 cases were misdiagnosed as the basal-cell carcinomas,5 cases as chalazion,2 cases as blepharitis,2 cases as squamous cell carcinoma,3 cases as the tumors of unknown nature.Misdiagnosis rate was as high as 59%.Conclusion SC can be easily be misdiagnosed asor other eyelid diseases such as chalazion,blepharitis.Histopathologic examination is the main method of diagnosis and early diagnosis is very important for the treatment of SC.
