Abstract
Objective To measure the retinal nerve fiber layer( RNFL) thickness and optic disc in youth using Spectral domain three-dimensional optical coherence tomography( OCT),and infer the baseline data for clinical optic disc examination. Methods A total of 110 healthy participants( 220 eyes) aged from 18 years to 27 years underwent optic disc scanning by three-dimensional OCT,the RNFL thickness,optic disc area and bergmeister papilla were observed and analyzed. Results The average RNFL thickness and nasal,superior,temple,inferior RNFL thickness were( 103. 56 ± 9. 60) μm,( 65. 70 ± 13. 62) μm,( 126. 12 ± 18. 57) μm,( 89. 88 ± 14. 09) μm,( 132. 33 ± 16. 87) μm,respectively. The optic disc area was( 2. 29 ± 0. 40) mm2, the disc cup area was( 0. 51 ± 0. 39) mm2,the disc limbus area was( 1. 78 ± 0. 36) mm2,the horizontal diameter was( 1. 59 ± 0. 17) mm,the perpendicular diameter of optic disc was( 1. 82± 0. 16) mm,cup / disc ratio was 0. 21 ± 0. 14,the horizontal cup / disc ratio was 0. 42 ± 0. 19,the horizontal cup / disc ratio was 0. 41 ± 0. 18. A positive correlation was found between average RNFL thickness and optic disc area( r = 4. 56,P 0. 01). Bergmeister papilla were found in 161 eyes,including binocular in 70 cases,simple-eye in 21 cases,all bergmeister papilla were located in edge of nasal optic disc. Conclusion The average RNFL thickness is positive correlated with optic disc area measured by OCT in youth,the bergmeister papilla is considerable common on the optic disc.
