The surgical features and effects of strabismus following retinal detachment treatment.

To investigate the surgical features and effects of strabismus following retinal detachment treatment. Methods We indentified 23 cases(26 eyes) from our practices who had strabismus induced by retinal detachment surgery.All patients were examined using prism altemate cover test or Krimsky test pre operation and post operation.Postoperative follow up is from 2 to 28 months. Results (1)Findings in operation:Fibrosis of the ocular extra muscles can be a contributing factor to the existing of strabismus.The average distances from limbus to insertion of rectus were farther than normal one.(2)Correction of angle of squint:Angle of squint decreased by simple weaken the rectus muscles was least,and decreased by combined with weaken resection reposition the rectus was best.(3)Succeful corrective rate was 56.5% and partly corrective rate was 43.5% at the first strabismus surgery. Conclusion The restrictive factors released and combined with rectus operation were successful in markedly improving this strabisums and diplopia.
