Abstract
The allelopathic potential of Vicia villosa in weed management, laboratory bioassays were conducted using speedwell, annual bluegrass and barnyardgrass as acceptors.Water extracts of aerial parts and roots of V.villosa at concentrations of 0,0.050,0.075 and 0.100 g/mL inhibited seed germination rate and seedling growth of the weeds. The inhibition increased with increased concentrations of the water extracts. The allelopathic effects of V.villosa on the weeds varied with weed species in the descending order of speedwell annual bluegrass barnyard grass. The extracts of aerial parts of V.villosa showed a greater inhibitory effects on the weeds than the root extracts.
