Abstract

Production of biodiesel by transesterification via heterogeneous catalys has attracted significant attention due to its great environmental and economic benefits. However, its heterogeneous nature and catalytic interface lead to the problems of long reaction time and low conversion of transesterification during the heterogeneous catalytic process. For this purpose, some process intensification technologies have been studied and used in the preparation of biodiese1.In this paper, the recent progress of the application of process intensification technologies, such as ultrasound, microwave, etc. To enhance heat exchange and mass transport in the biodiesel production by transesterification via heterogeneous catalyst are reviewed.
