Expression of Osteopontin in Pancreatic Cancer and Its Clinical Significance

Objective: To study the mRNA and protein expression levels of osteopontin in pancreatic cancer and the relationship with clinic pathological features.Methods: Amount of 50 cases of pancreatic cancer surgical specimens and 20 cases of adjacent normal tissue were studied.The OPN mRNA and protein expression levels were detected by RT-PCR and immunohistochemistry respectively.Results: RT-PCR analysis showed that the OPN mRNA were highly expressed in pancreatic tissues(45/50,90 %),which was significantly higher than in adjacent normal tissues(3/20,15 %)(P0.01).Immunohistochemistry analysis demonstrated that the OPN protein was high expressed in pancreatic tissues(43/50,86 %),which was significantly higher than in adjacent normal tissue(6/20,30 %)(P0.01).The expression levels of OPN in pancreatic cancer were obviously associated with lymph node metastasis(P0.05).Conclusion: The OPN was overexpressed in pancreatic cancer,which maybe played important roles in the growth,invasion and metastasis of cancer.
