Translation Methods:Literal Translation and Free Translation

For a long time,translation methods were the focus of argumentation for various translation schools.They were so strongly insist on their viewpoints that there was not a solution in the end.Through their points,it's not hard to find one criterion that they have pursued.That's the translation criterion which also is the standard to measure translation theory.From the perspective of the fundamental definition of literal translation and free translation,according to the translation criteria,the paper describes the advantages and disadvantages of them respectively,and further discusses the interrelationship between them and the basic principles in translation practices.
