Abstract
Objective To investigate the correlation between coronary atherosclerosis and retinal atherosclerosis in patients undergoing the coronary arteriongraphy, and to predict the condition of coronary atherosclerosis by retinal atherosclerosis. Methods The ocular fundus was examined in 110 patients undergoing coronary angiography.According to lipids and glucose, all patients were divided into four groups:hyperglycemia and hyperlipemia group, hyperlipemia group, hyperglycemia group and control group(patients without hyperglycemia or hyperlipemia). The fundus and the condition of coronary atherosclerosis were examined in 4 groups, and the correlation between coronary atherosclerosis and retinal atherosclerosis was analyzed. The predictive rate of coronary atherosclerosis was detected by investigating retinal atherosclerosis. Results The coefficient correlation was 0.829 in patients with hyperglycemia and hyperlipemia,0.674 in patients with hyperglycemia,0.620 in patient with hyperlipemia and 0.613 in controls. The incidence rate of coronary atherosclerosis in patients with retinal atherosclerosis was higher than that in patients without retinal atherosclerosis. The positive predictive rate of simple retinal atherosclerosis for coronary atherosclerosis was 43.9% in controls,59.6% in patients with hyperlipemia,52.6% in patients with hyperglycemia, and 58.8% in patients with hyperglycemia and hyperlipemia. Conclusion Hyperglycemia and hyperlipemia have effects on coronary atherosclerosis and retinal atherosclerosis.Retinal atherosclerosis may predict the incidence of coronary atherosclerosis.
