Abstract

Objective To study the influences of orthodontic correction of deep overbite or overjet on the morphology of upper airway. Methods 28 patients with significant change of overbite and overjet during orthodontic treatment were included in this study. Some measurements of the upper airway morphology were done and correlation analysis was used to evaluate the change. Results Before orthodontic treatment, there was no correlation between overbite and overjet, and no correlation between overjet and upper airway measurements. But the overbite showed statistical correlation with H-MP,AD-PNS,Mc1-Mc2,U-MPW. After orthodontic treatment, the overjet showed correlation with the overbite,H-Or and PNS-U. Overbite only showed correlation with the overjet and H-Or. Conclusions The overjet before orthodontic treatment was not correlative with the morphology of upper airway. The changes of the overbite or overjet had some effect on the morphology of upper airway after orthodontic treatment.
