Abstract

Objective To explore the significance of applying rapid culture(RC) and passive particle agglutination(PPA) in children with mycoplasma pneumonia(MP).Methods MP in 114 children with pneumonia within 5 days of the disease course was examined with RC and PPA.According to clinical diagnosis, the children were divided into 2 groups of mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia(group A,54 cases) and non-mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia(group B,60 cases).MP in group A was rechecked by these two methods between 7 to 10 days of the disease course and positive rates were compared. Results The results of RC and PPA examinations within 5 days of the disease in 114 cases showed that the positive rates of MP were 42.1% and 23.7%,the sensitivities were 83.33% and 50.0%,the specificities were 95.0% and 100%,the areas under ROC curve were 89.2% and 75.0%,respectively(P0.05).The positive rates of RC and PPA examinations between 7 to 10 days of the disease in group A were 64.81% and 100.0%,respectively(P0.05).ConclusionExaminations of MP with RC and PPA methods are of importance in diagnosis of mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia when selecting the reasonable time of examination.
