Abstract

Reported in this paper were the megasporogenesis and the development of female gametophyte of the species Limonium otolepis(Schrenk) Kuntze.by means of paraffin. The results were as follows:based on the cross section of a flower, the pistil was composed of five carpels, stigmas and styli separate, the ovary was coadnate, basal placenta,it had only one circinotropous ovule, the ovule was crassinucellate and had two layers of integument, the micropyle was formed by the inner integument, the archesporial cell come from the nucella cells under the epidermis layer and formed the sporogenous cell after periclinal division, then the sporogenous cell developed into the megaspore directly, the megasporocyte underwent meiosis and gave rise to a linear tetrad of megaspore, the chalazal megaspore was functional and developed into mature embryonary sac.The development pattern of female gametophyte was the Polygonum type.
