In The Lonely the protagonist Wei Lianshu was of double loneliness,psychological and spiritual.As an intellectual he had no choice but to follow suit in actions.Scant attention has been paid by researchers to his mentality as for love and marriage.This paper makes a study on the protagonist's loneliness in such a sense.
