Exploration and Practice on Safety Management of Chemical Waste in Laboratories

Laboratory is a main site for scientific researches and teaching activities,everyday there are all kinds of chemical experiments to carry out in a university,then a large amount of chemicals are used and chemical wastes are emitted. Although their amount is less than chemical companies,the components of emissions are complex,especially,some of them are flammable,explosive or toxic. In order to strengthen the safety management of chemical waste in laboratories,to protect the environment of campus and the health of teachers and students,this paper introduces the category and properties of laboratory waste in universities. The general situation of the laboratory chemical waste management is analyzed,based on the current situation of safety management about laboratory chemical waste disposal at Nanjing University of Science and Technology, suggestions of enhancing chemical waste safety management are presented. The suggestions include the management team with responsibility,the minimization ways of laboratory waste,the tracking management of chemical reagents,the construction of rules and regulations,and the cultivation of environmental awareness.
