Abstract

Objective To investigate the cytologic characters of low dose iron supplementation in children with iron deficiency anemia(IDA)of children. Methods Forty-six IDA children were randomly divided into two groups:control group and test group. The children in control group received ferrous sulfate in 2 mg/kg,three times daily post cibum, those in test group received ferrous sulfate in 2 mg/kg once every other day post cibum.Red blood cell(RBC),hemoglobin(Hb),hematocrit(Hct),mean corpuscular volume(MCV),mean corpuscular hemoglobin(MCH),mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration(MCHC),serum iron(SI),total iron binding capacity(TIBC)and serum ferritin(SF)were detected before and after therapy, and the side effects during administration were recorded. Results RBC,Hct,Hb,MCV,MCH and MCHC were all significantly increased in both groups after treament(P 0.05),SI and SF were obviously increased(P 0.01),while TIBC was significantly decreased(P 0.05).The incidence of side effects in test group was significant lower than that in control group(P 0.01).Conclusion The therapy of iron supplementation with low dose once every other day is better than the conventional therapy for iron deficiency anemia in children.
