Abstract
Propionic anhydride was prepared by continuous reactive distillation using acetic anhydride and propionic acid as starting materials. The Effects of reaction conditions such as n(propionic acid)∶n(anhydride),stage number of reaction section and reflux ratio on product purity were studied. The obtained optimum conditions were n(propionic acid)∶n(anhydride)= 2.02∶1,reflux ratio 3∶1 and stage number of reaction section 8.Under above conditions, the purity of propionic anhydride was 99.2%.
