Abstract
Stable sodium based montmorillonite suspension was prepared using natural calcium and sodium based bentonite as raw material. On this basis, the organic montmorillonite was prepared using Co2+ as the precipitant agent, and phthalic acid as modifier. The influence of the ratios of raw materials on modification of montmorillonite was studied. The X-ray diffraction results showed that the layer spacing of phthalic acid modified montmorillonite were increased to 1.318 23 nm,indicating that the organic matter entered into montmorillonite layers.Organic montmorillonite/unsaturated polyester resin composite was prepared and impact test showed that compared with pure unsaturated polyester resin, when the content of organic montmorillonite was 3 %,the impact strength was increased by 43.31 %.
