Evaluation of clinical efficacy and safety of moxifloxacin in treating patients with community acquired pneumonia

Abstract

AIM To evaluate the efficacy and safety of moxifloxac in treating the patients with commu-nity acquired pneumonia.METHODS A block randomized, open clinical, parallel controlled trial was conducted.Patients were randomized into trial group and control group in the study.The trial group patients received moxifloxacin 400 mg once daily, and the control group patients received levofloxacin 200 mg twice daily by intravenous infusion;with a course of 7-14 days for both groups.RESULTS Ninety-two patients were enrolled in the ITT analysis with 46 in each group, while 73 patients were conducted in the PP analysis including 37 patients in the trial group and 36 patients in the control group.The overall efficacy rates in the PP of the trial group and the control group were 89% and 89%;and the bacterial eradication rates were 90% and 91%, respectively(P 0.05) .The adverse drug reaction rates were evaluated in 92 patients, showing the rates were 11% and 9% respectively with no significant statistical differences(P 0.05) .CONCLUSION Moxifloxacin is effective and safe in the treatment of community acquired pneumonia.
