Succession trend of red tide causative organisms in Shenzhen Costal waters

Abstract

Total 85 red tides events and about 36 red tide species were recorded in this paper from 1981 to 2001 in Shenzhen coastal waters. During 21years, it seemed that there's an obvious trend on the succession of red tide causative organisms: 1) The diversity of red tide causative species increased. 2) The red tide events caused by familiar species decreased while that caused by rare ones increased. 3) The red tide events caused by diatom decreased while that caused by dinoflgellate and other species increased. This succession seems to be closely related to the change of the constitutes of the pollutants dumped into coastal sea, which caused by the industry, agriculture and domestic sewage of Shenzhen in recent 20 years. Moreover this succession is consistent with the global change trend.
