Abstract

As an approach to poetic reform and innovation,Taking Article as Poem has been fully practiced by Su Shi to an unprecedented level. There is something deeper behind Su Shi's learning from and reforming Han Yu's poems. Different from the plump poetry in the Tang Dynasty, poetry in the Song Dynasty is rather skeletal. Su Shi and Huang Tingjian established the new poetic style, which had certain artistic relation to Han Yu's Taking Article as Poem doctrine.
