Abstract

The development of the Chinese culture has been varied wherein Confucianism, Taoism and Mohism are contrary to one another in the value system;for Taoism advocates natural instincts, Confucianism respects ethics while Mohism upholds utilitarianism. Confucianism has advanced the orthodoxy thought with ethics as its core and believed that human beings are born kindhearted. Moreover, the Confucian school of idealist philosophy in the Song and Ming Dynasties has also laid down the content of the orthodoxy thought, but the objectification of ethics has led to its alienation. The intrinsic transcendence of Confucianism is based on the benevolence of human beings, thus having integrated the ideal personality with the practical one. By viewing the confucian ethics critically,we can reorganize it into a part of the modern value system.
