Abstract

American English and British English are two variants of the English language. Although the main parts of them are the same, there are still some differences in pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar and spelling. And the differences in pronunciation are particularly difficult for Chinese English learners. In this paper, the author contrasts the vowels and consonants of American English and British English systematically and introduces the peculiar phenomena in relaxed American spoken English.
