Abstract
In ancient China,Yangzhou used to be a centre of salt transportation and administration.Many rich salt merchants gathered in Yangzhou.Business and social gatherings were not separable,which motivated many salt merchants to construct gardens for sake of all those gatherings.Up to the Ming and Qing Dynasties,the number of gardens in Yangzhou reached the peak.When the salt market turned sluggish towards the end of the Qing Dynasty,Yangzhou gardens no longer kept the prosperity.
